Chasing the Eclipse, hour one.

It is far too early. I’m drinking coffee and drifting in a pleasant haze.

Boyfriend’s road trip playlist is playing Lucinda Williams. I’m glad he’s driving, Lucinda is putting me to sleep right now.

Oh! This song is so good.

“I think this is Santana telling Prince to ‘hold my beer’,” boyfriend said.

“To be fair, Prince didn’t have Yo Yo Ma,” I said.

The kids, Fifteen and Eleven, are awake and looking for constellations.

We have snacks for days, and we’re heading south to intersection the path of totality and hope to find clear skies at the proper time.

Hour two.

We crossed the Indiana line at some point. I’ve been snoozing and missed the fun.

Hour four.

We’re deep in Indiana and we’re seeing Eclipse billboards, which feels slightly surreal, but there are likely people who completely unaware. Can you imagine?

Hour six.

We stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. The weather is amazing! We probably left far too early, but areas of cloud cover will make ideal vantage points shift a bit as the day goes on.

We’re in Franklin, Indiana. It’s a lovely town, and I hope I have reason to return here.
